Following on from the success of our inaugural modelling centre drop in sessions in February, we have announced the next two session in our series.
The first subject we’re seeking the community’s input on are the CMIP7 variables. We have launched registration for the first of two variables session on Thursday 1st June 2023 at 14:00-15:15 UTC. Another session will be announced soon for those based in an Asian/Australasian time zone. These events will be chaired by one of the CMIP Panel Co-chairs and led by the Data Request Task Team co-leads, Martin Juckes (CEDA/STFC, UK) and Chloe Mackallah (CSIRO, AU). In these informal, discussion focused sessions attendees will be asked to provide feedback on their evolving variable needs (in terms of complexity, volume, and timing) with respect to increasingly complex models and meeting the demands of downstream users, and the capacity of models and workflows to support those needs.
We’ve also launched registration for two sessions facilitating community discussion on the development and use of forcing datasets. There will be two virtual information sessions on Wednesday 7th June at 05:00-06:15 and 15:00-16:15 UTC. The sessions will be chaired by one of the CMIP Panel co-chairs and led by the Forcings Task Team co-leads, Paul Durack (PCMDI/LLNL) and Vaishali Naik (GFDL/NOAA), and the wider members of the task team. In these sessions, participants will hear about the feedback received in the recent Future CMIP Forcings Community Survey and how the task team is addressing issues raised here, to deliver to CMIP7, and tackle longer term scientific challenges, before opening up the session for an interactive dialogue.
