Following feedback received over recent months, we are launching a restructure of the Fresh Eyes group to allow for different levels of participation, as suited to the member. All previous Fresh Eyes members and Fresh Eyes Directory members are invited to choose their preferred membership level.
The old structure had a steering group, an infrastructure group and several subgroups. Many of these groups developed a project and started work on these. Some Fresh Eyes members raised that they would rather be involved in a more ’consultative’ way, where they can propose projects, suggest events, and consult on other work. In addition, the Fresh Eyes Directory invited members who may have missed the early application call to sign-up to an online ECR database.
The new structure has two streams of Fresh Eyes membership: Projects and the Directory.
- The Projects stream is similar to, and replaces, the current structure: groups of Fresh Eyes work together on a project with two or more co-leads. Each project has identified TT liaison points.
- The Directory stream allows for a less committed membership of Fresh Eyes, where members can sign up for or propose new projects as and when they have the capacity to do so. There are a number of other activities available within the Directory.
Coordination across the whole Fresh Eyes activity will be done by the Steering Group. All members of the Projects stream will also be Directory members.
Projects stream
Anyone can propose a project – Fresh Eyes members, Task Teams, CMIP Panel/WIP or the IPO. New proposals will be shared with all Fresh Eyes members who can elect whether they wish to sign up to participate. Today, you are invited to register for projects which have been proposed by co-leads of the (now old-) subgroups. You can sign-up to any project which is of interest to you, you are not bound by previous subgroup assignments.
We will also open proposals for new projects soon. Once open, Projects can be proposed at any time via a short proposal form. This will go to the Fresh Eyes Steering Group for review, before being elevated to the CMIP Panel/WIP. Proposal will include:
- Short description outlining project purpose
- Clear (SMART) objectives and outcomes
- Identification of at least 2 co-leads
- Planned duration
- Identify links with existing TTs and working groups
Each Fresh Eyes project will identify TTs their project aligns with. TT co-leads are encouraged to collaborate with the Fresh Eyes project, as has been happening over the past year. TTs are welcome and encouraged to invite project co-leads to TT meetings as stakeholders where needed and to continue collaboration outside of meetings.
Directory stream
Anyone in the Directory stream can propose a new project for Fresh Eyes at any time. Once a proposal has been approved by the Fresh Eyes Steering Group and CMIP Panel, a sign-up form will be circulated to all Fresh Eyes Directory members.
In addition to project proposal and sign-ups, directory members can organise/attend events:
- Events can be self-proposed or solicited by TTs/Panels/IPO (e.g. AOGS workshop)
- Ideas include:
- Conference workshops/townhalls/sessions/socials
- Modelling community discussion panels
- Workshops
- Summer schools
- Propose topics for discussion panels/seminars. The IPO may be able to help with organisation and facilitation where needed.
Members will also receive invites to:
- Community consultations and reviews
- New projects
- Working groups
- Events
- Travel support fund
- Access professional development training materials and sessions offered by the CMIP IPO.
