The CMIP International Project Office, hosted by ESA Climate Office, is seeking a creative self-starter who will proactively tackle challenges and propose innovative solutions to support and advance delivery and uptake of climate modelling science, helping the world to better understand, and act on, climate change. 

If you are skilled in language such as Python, C, or Fortran and have experience in Software Development and version control systems, are used to using Github to enhance visibility, collaboration and management of your work, are willing to learn about, and evolve, the CMIP distributed Data Infrastructure and are looking for a new challenge, we’d love to hear from you.

The role

You’ll be a member of a small, dedicated cross-functional, agile team, working directly with leading climate modelling and data scientists on the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) CMIP and Working Group on Coupled Modelling (WGCM) Infrastructure Panels, supporting and developing the distributed infrastructure behind CMIP including model documentation, collecting and specifying community data requirements, and the development and management of tools for preparing outputs compliant with these data standards.

A key part of the role will be to engage with scientific and downstream users to identify user requirements and devise and implement new features with associated tests and to ensure that CMIP remains current and at the forefront of interoperability and use, where appropriate, state-of-the-art development platforms, tools and techniques.

The CMIP International Project Office is hosted by the European Space Agency. The team is contracted and managed by HE Space. HE Space is offering a competitive salary. Applications remain open until the post is filled.
