ESGF10

23 April @ 09:00 26 April @ 15:00 UTC-4

Tenth Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) Hybrid Conference

Members of the CMIP community are warmly welcomed to attend the ESGF10 meeting. It is taking place in person but plenary sessions will be broadcast online. There is no registration fee for online participants but registration is essential.

The meeting, which takes place 23 – 26 April 2024, has been designed to facilitate collaborative interactions and creation of a roadmap for ESGF development activities aimed at modernizing the system for CMIP7 Fast Track simulation data.

The goal of the conference is to develop system requirements, plan software engineering activities, and organize community research and development projects.

The objectives are to:

  • share all current development activities across the Federation
  • develop a roadmap for collaborative activities necessary to deploy operational ESGF infrastructure to support CMIP AR7 Fast Track

Please see the Draft Agenda (opens in new tab) for more information.

To attend this meeting, you must register here (opens in new tab).

Who should attend

The conference is designed to engage:

  • ESGF developers and operations teams,
  • Earth system modelers and modeling center staff,
  • data management experts
  • tool designers
  • model analysts
  • data users

About ESGF

The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is an international consortium and a globally distributed peer-to-peer network of data servers using a common set of protocols and interfaces to archive and distribute climate and Earth system model output and related input, observational, and reanalysis data. Find out more about ESGF and why it is important for CMIP here (opens in new tab).

ESGF’s primary goal is to facilitate advancements in Earth System Science. It is an interagency and international effort led by the Department of Energy (DOE), and co-funded by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Science Foundation (NSF), and international laboratories such as the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ), the Australian National University (ANU) National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL), and the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA).  Find out more on the ESGF website (opens in new tab).

A new project called ESGF2, led by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory in collaboration with Argonne and Lawrence Livermore national laboratories, is part of international efforts to upgrade the global data system that is integral to simulations of future climate. Find out more about this project here.
