Following the first round of reviews on the CMIP7 Overview Paper, the CMIP Panel have decided to update the name of the upcoming Fast Track from ‘AR7 Fast Track’ to ‘Assessment Fast Track’.
The new name, Assessment Fast Track (CMIP7 AFT), reflects the AFT’s utility to a broader range of assessments. Projected climate change in coupled models due to increased greenhouse gas concentrations has been part of every Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report since its inception and CMIP projections are now used extensively in national and regional climate change assessments supporting risk analysis, impact and adaptation planning. Additionally, the new name and acronym avoid embedded acronyms, providing clarity for our community.
