Building on the Streamlining model selection – a collaborative virtual workshop, this session at the ESM2025 Final Event will be a focused practical discussion on streamlining the model selection approaches and process for downstream activities utilising the CMIP7 Assessment Fast Track (CMIP7 AFT).

This hybrid session will bring together representatives of CORDEX, ISIMIP, ISMIP7, and other downstream activities with modelling centres to discuss:

• When CMIP7 AFT output is expected to become available, and from which models.
• The requirements of downstream activities to support their contribution to IPCC Assessment Report 7.
• Balancing optimal model selection approaches with realistic expectations of available data.
• The role of evaluation tools e.g., CMIP7 AFT Rapid Evaluation Framework, ESMValTool etc.
• How can the approaches utilised in, and lessons learned from, CMIP6 be built, and improved on, for CMIP7.
• How to address challenges such as selection criteria when considering emissions-driven scenarios.
• The need to use more than one ensemble member.
• Ensuring representation and recognition of needs of all global regions.
• What support is required, and who can deliver this.
