The EGU General Assembly 2023 brings together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

Townhalls

The CMIP-IPO has organised two Townhalls for EGU23.

Co-creating the Future CMIP

This Townhall will provide an update on the activities of the CMIP Panel, WIP, and Task Teams, highlight engagement opportunities and seek feedback from the EGU23 attendee community representing both CMIP data producers and users from the increasingly wide and diverse range of CMIP downstream users.

Early career researchers’ reflections from CMIP6

This Townhall offers ECRs the opportunity to provide their feedback on CMIP6, whilst also having the opportunity to find out about a new engagement opportunity for ECRs. It is designed to be an informal and comfortable setting in which ECRs can influence future phases of CMIP so that its design is as useful and accessible as possible for those using it on a regular basis.

Drop in sessions 

Come and meet the CMIP IPO and other members of the CMIP Governance teams everyday at lunchtime. Come along for a casual chat or with any questions you want answered.

Monday – CMIP Outreach and Engagement

Want to get more involved with CMIP and help to influence the planning of future CMIP phases, including CMIP7? Just want to learn more about the structure of CMIP? The CMIP IPO team will be at our drop in to talk about our current and future engagement opportunities. Come along to also hear about a new, exciting opportunity for researchers, scientists, and practitioners early in their career.

Tuesday – CMIP Downscaling

Are you interested in the relationship between CMIP and CORDEX and want to learn more about some tools for performing downscaling, impacts modelling or storylines? Come to meet us on Tuesday when Stefan Sobolowski (NORCE Climate) will be presenting some of the work from EURO-CORDEX. 

Wednesday – CMIP Science

For any and all questions about CMIP Science, Wednesday’s drop in is the day for you! We’ll have one of our CMIP Panel Co-chairs, Helene Hewitt (UK Met Office) and other Panel and WIP members around to talk about CMIP6 and CMIP7.

Thursday – CMIP Infrastructure

Are you a CMIP data provider, ESGF node manager, or just want to understand how the CMIP infrastructure all works? Come and chat with WIP member and Data Citation Task Team co-lead Martina Stockhause (DKRZ) to demystify the coordination of data and infrastructure. 

CMIP Social

We’re all having lunch together on Wednesday! This is a great chance to meet and networking with people across the CMIP community. Grab your lunch, then come and meet us Grab your food and drink then meet us in Networking zone suite C (in the red zone). You can spot us as the people wearing CMIP name badges and holding a CMIP sign! We’ll be there from 13:00 until 14:15.
