About the workshop
The CMIP Community Workshop 2026, held from 9–13 March 2026 at the Kyoto International Conference Center (ICC Kyoto), Japan, brought together scientists, model developers, and researchers from around the world working on climate modeling and Earth system science. The workshop served as an important moment for the community to exchange ideas, present ongoing research, and discuss the next scientific steps toward the development of CMIP7. This post is to share a brief overview of this session and to reflect on some of the discussions and research presented.
The Poster Session: A Space for Dialogue
This session was a poster session – which took place on Thursday, 12 March 2026 – focused on climate intervention strategies, presenting research on Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). These approaches are increasingly being considered as global temperatures approach the 1.5°C threshold, making it essential to better understand their potential effectiveness, associated risks, and broader implications. As a result, improving how these strategies are represented and evaluated in climate models has become a critical priority for the scientific community.
Poster sessions often create a different atmosphere compared to formal presentations. They invite conversation. People stop, ask questions, and share ideas in a more spontaneous way. During this session, researchers gathered around posters discussing modeling approaches, potential climate responses to intervention strategies, and the uncertainties that still remain.
My Poster: Renewable Energy in a Geoengineered Climate

During this session, I had the opportunity to present my poster entitled “Potential Impact of Stratospheric Aerosols on Solar and Wind Energy in Africa.”
My research explores how stratospheric aerosol injection, a proposed solar radiation modification strategy, could influence renewable energy resources across the African continent. While the primary goal of this approach is to reduce global warming by reflecting part of the incoming solar radiation back into space, it may also modify important atmospheric variables such as solar radiation at the surface, temperature patterns, and wind circulation.
These changes matter because solar and wind energy depend directly on atmospheric conditions. Understanding how climate intervention strategies might affect these resources is therefore essential, especially for regions such as Africa where expanding access to sustainable and reliable energy remains a key development priority.
Scientific Exchanges and Reflections
Presenting my work during the poster session was a truly rewarding experience. The discussions that followed were thoughtful, constructive, and often encouraging. Researchers shared insights, asked questions, and offered perspectives that helped broaden the way I approach and think about my research. Moments like these are a strong reminder that science progresses not only through data and models, but also through dialogue. The poster session created exactly that kind of space – one where ideas could circulate freely and connections between different areas of research could emerge naturally.
This dynamic exchange was reflected in the diversity of studies presented during the session, which focused on Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). The contributions explored a variety of techniques, including stratospheric aerosol injection, marine cloud brightening, and different carbon removal approaches, with a strong emphasis on their representation in climate models and associated uncertainties. Several studies investigated the impacts of these interventions on key climate variables such as temperature, precipitation, atmospheric circulation, and air quality. Others highlighted important regional effects, including drought, ocean processes, Arctic sea ice, and renewable energy. Overall, the session underscored the importance of robust modeling approaches and interdisciplinary collaboration to better understand the effectiveness, risks, and broader implications of SRM and CDR strategies.
Conclusion
Participating in this workshop and sharing my research with the international climate modeling community was both an inspiring and motivating experience. The discussions and feedback received during the session will certainly contribute to shaping future research on the interactions between climate intervention strategies and our environment.
